Position Summary
The Long Island GLBT Community Center is seeking to hire its first Director of Mental Health Services responsible for providing counseling services, staff and intern supervision, and playing a leadership role in the development and expansion of the The Center’s mental health program.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Mental Health Services reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for:
•Overseeing The Network’s growing mental health services
•Coordinating OMH and OASAS licensure application process
•Providing individual, couples, family, and group counseling for GLBT people across the lifespan
•Providing administrative and clinical oversight to counseling and psychoeducational services
•Individual and group supervision of staff and interns
•Providing in-service clinical training to health and human services professionals on issues pertinent to the GLBT population
•Maintaining and updating the community resources and referrals directory
•Completing regular reports for current funders and assist in the solicitation of new and/or additional funding through grant writing
•Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
•Applicant must be a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with significant supervisory experience
•Experience in drug and alcohol counseling (CASAC preferred)
•Minimum three years experience in the provision of individual, family, and group counseling
•Proven experience in mental health counseling and supervision, group facilitation, and clinical supervision
•Applicant must be SIFI-certified or SIFI-eligible
•Commitment to and knowledge of GLBT issues
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Reliable transportation (this position requires some travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties)
•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of people
•Strong organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks at once
•Occasional nights and weekends required
